This week, defensive lineman Tyree Johnson, who leads the team in career sacks, sits down for the Aggie Football Q&A.
Â
Why did you want to come to Texas A&M?
Â
I came to Texas A&M to have a different experience by getting away from home. I wanted to experience a different culture and different foods. Texas is really large and I always thought about playing football somewhere in Texas when I was growing up. I like the Dallas Cowboys, too, so I thought it would be cool to play here at A&M.Â
Â
Who have you learned from the most since coming to A&M?
Â
I've learned a lot from many different people, but Coach Price I've learned the most from. From my freshman year to now my game has improved so much and I feel like I have gotten so much better as a player because of him. I also learned a lot from Jarrett Johnson, in my freshman year when he was a senior, he really helped develop my game.Â
Â
How would you describe Coach Price?
Â
He's really tough as a coach. As a freshman when I was first coming in it was really hard to understand that, but once you get used to how he is as a coach and learn that he is pushing you to get the best out of you, that's when you realize that he's not a bad guy. He's pretty down to earth, he's goofy and has cookouts with the D-line. I really love him, if I had the chance to make this choice again I would in a heartbeat.
Â
How would you describe yourself as a leader?
Â
My leadership style is more of a lead by example, I don't really say too much and I take pride in working hard.
Â
Who is the hardest person on the offensive line to go against?
Â
Our offensive line is a really good group, all five of them are great guys. There's not one that I can pick, they're all hard to go against.
Â
What was your favorite sports team growing up?
Â
I loved the Dallas Cowboys, but I was a big Michael Vick fan, too. I'm also a big NBA fan and I love LeBron James because of his work ethic, I just grew up watching him and idolized him.
Â
What do you like to do away from football?
Â
I like hanging out with friends a lot and playing video games like Madden, besides that I sleep a lot.
Â
Do you have any pre-game rituals or favorite music to listen to?
Â
I don't really have pre-game rituals, but I do listen to a lot of music. I like to stay focused and get my mind right by visualizing the game before it happens. I do start out listening to hype music, but when it gets closer to game time I'm listening to something more low key and serious.Â
