Apr 14, 2020 | Football
With fans counting down to the 2020 Texas A&M Football season, we continue our series to breakdown each position group for the highly anticipated season. Under the direction of third-year head coach Jimbo Fisher, Kellen Mond returns for his third season as the starter at quarterback.
Returning Starter: Kellen Mond
Lost: None
Lettermen Returning: Connor Blumrick, Zach Calzada, James Foster, Colton Taylor
Newcomer: Haynes King

With 34 starts under his belt, Kellen Mond returns to Aggieland with aspirations of rewriting the A&M record book for quarterbacks. Following last season, Mond ranked in the top-five in career wins, passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions and attempts as he joined Johnny Manziel as the only Aggie to throw for over 7,000 yards and rush for 1,000 more in a career. Mond, a senior from San Antonio, leads all SEC quarterbacks with 15 games with a touchdown through the air and on the ground in the same game.

Joining Mond in the quarterback room are a trio of returners that saw time in the backfield last season. Sophomore James Foster appeared in four games while freshman Zach Calzada redshirted after playing in three games and recording a pair of touchdowns on 12-of-24 passing, a new NCAA rule went into effect last season allowing players to redshirt if they compete in four of fewer games. Connor Blumrick played in nine games for the Aggies, playing primarily on special teams and filling in at emergency running back.
All hail.

Freshman Haynes King joined the Aggies in January after graduating a semester early from Longview High School. King garnered Under Armour All-American honors after totaling 30 touchdowns his senior season, 20 through the air and 10 on the ground. The right hander was 123-for-213 for 1,926 yards and rushed 55 times for 506 yards in his final prep season.
