Apr 21, 2020 | Football
With fans counting down to the 2020 Texas A&M Football season, we continue our series to breakdown each position group for the highly anticipated season. Under the direction of newly appointed running backs coach Tommie Robinson, Isaiah Spiller is set to be the lead back after taking over starting duties just three games into his freshman season.
Returning Starter: Isaiah Spiller
Lettermen Returning: Ainias Smith, AJ Sanders, Bladen Reeves
Newcomers: Devon Achane, Darvon Hubbard, Deondre Jackson

After making nine starts and appearing in every game for the Aggies, Spiller earned SEC All-Freshman Team accolades from the league’s head coaches and earned the Offensive Top Newcomer Award at the football team’s banquet in December. Spiller paced the Aggies with 946 yards and reached the end zone 10 times in his first season in the Maroon & White. Against UTSA, Spiller matched Trayveon William’s A&M true freshman rushing record of 217 yards.

Smith played several positions for the Aggies a year ago as he began his transition to the backfield in the Texas Bowl victory over Oklahoma State. Smith registered yardage as a punt returner, kick returner, rusher and receiver as he earned Special Teams Newcomer, Special Teams Impact and Specialist Strength Awards at the year-end banquet.
