Aggie Football Q&A: Kellen Mond
Sep 30, 2020 | Football
Senior quarterback Kellen Mond, who is on pace to break nearly every Texas A&M career passing record in his third year as the starter, sat down for this week's Aggie Football Q&A.
What is your first football memory?
The first thing that comes to mind is in the third or fourth grade, doing Oklahoma drills. I used to play both sides of the ball and I was a tackling machine.
What are your goals for this season?
The team goal is to win a national championship. I think there are many records in the book that are going to be broken, my individual goal is to stay healthy and be able to break those records with my teammates.
What is your favorite thing about Coach Fisher and what have you learned from him?
I love how invested he is in football, he literally breathes football and it's on his mind 24/7. The older I have gotten the more knowledgeable I've been of the offense and I'm starting to see more of myself coach others the way that he does. The person that he is and the type of information he can give in teaching others about football and life, I think that is one of the biggest things that I've learned.
What do you like to do away from playing football?
I like to meditate and do yoga. I'm always watching game film or watching NFL and college football highlights on YouTube.
What was your favorite sports team growing up and who was your favorite athlete?
My favorite sports team was definitely the hometown team, the San Antonio Spurs. I grew up loving Andre Johnson on the Houston Texans, but once he left I just had to stop liking him.
How would you describe yourself as a leader?
I don't think I can pinpoint my leadership style any certain way, I've seen many different people lead with different styles. Being around Coach Fisher, Coach Craig, Christian Kirk and Trayveon Williams and seeing how they lead, I feel like I've picked up small pieces of leadership styles from each one of them.
What is your pregame mood and what kind of music do you listen to?
Depending on how close we are to the game I can either be more quiet and focused or more hyped and energetic. When I'm warming up on the field I'm a little more hype than when I'm back in the locker room I'm pretty chill, quiet and very focused. I listen to anything from hip-hop, R&B and rap. I always make a different playlist for each game and it can change on the bus ride from the hotel to the stadium.
What are you most looking forward to about this season?
In a good way I'm looking forward to the most is playing my last season of college football.
