Aggies Garner espnW Team of the Week Honors; Ranked No. 7 in AP Poll

Women's basketball was named the espnW Team of the Week and moved up to No. 7 in the latest Associated Press poll after victories over No. 10 Kentucky and No. 13 Arkansas.

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M women's basketball was named the espnW Team of the Week and moved up to No. 7 in the latest Associated Press poll after victories over No. 10 Kentucky and No. 13 Arkansas.

The Aggies began the week with a 77-60 victory over Kentucky. Jordan Nixon led the way with a career-high 19 points, including the first 11 points of the game. Aaliyah Wilson capped off the week with a career high of her own, scoring 27 in the win over Arkansas, 74-73. Nixon sealed the victory, hitting running bank-shot with 0.4 seconds remaining.

N'dea Jones added double-doubles in both games, and became A&M's all-time leader in the category, notching the 34th of her career.

The Aggies defeated top-15 teams in back-to-back games for the first time since the 2010-11 National Championship season when they beat No. 2 Stanford and No. 9 Notre Dame in the Final Four. A&M is also the only team in the country with four wins over ranked opponents and leads the nation in victories (12).

The No. 7 ranking is the highest for the Aggies since last season when they went into Thanksgiving week with the No. 6 ranking.

A&M travels to LSU for a 6 p.m. matchup on Thursday, and the game can be seen on SEC Network+.

An Aggie win would mark the best start in program history, besting the 2008-09 team that began the year 12-0. A&M will then take on No. 14 Mississippi State at home on Sunday at noon.
