BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The catchers and utility players round out the Texas A&M softball team. This skilled cast of athletes returns six with the addition of one new face.
Senior Kelly Martinez and junior Haley Lee are listed as both positional players for the Maroon & White along with the addition of freshman Mayce Allen behind the plate. Utility senior Meagan Smith and sophomore Jourdyn Campbell.
"We have the luxury of experience, athleticism, and elite receivers behind the plate," head coach Jo Evans said. "The catching position is certainly a strength for us this season.
#21 Kelly Martinez (Sr.|Yucaipa, California)
Labeled a catcher and utility player, Martinez appeared in 12 games with nine starts for the Aggies. The Yucaipa, California, native recorded a double and a RBI in the shortened 2020 season.
#25 Haley Lee (Jr.| Kingwood, Texas)
Depended on for her efforts behind the plate or for her glove at first, Lee was awarded starts in every game of the 2020 season. She finished second on the team with her five home runs while leading the pack with 19 RBI. The Kingwood, Texas, native tallied seven doubles to help boost her .324 batting average. In the series against Kentucky, she belted three home runs to pick up five RBI.
#5 Mayce Allen (Fr.| Frisco, Texas)
Allen comes in as a four-year starter at Frisco Independence High School. During those years, she was depended on as a third baseman, shortstop, centerfielder and saw time behind the plate. She was ranked 97 on FloSoftball's Hot 100 alongside her 17th place finish as a catcher by Extra Inning Softball. This diverse skill set warranted District 13-5A MVP recognition in 2019, First Team All-Metroplex and All-Area recognition.
#3 Meagan Smith (Sr.| Lake Jackson, Texas)
Smith appeared in 16 games for the Aggies combining for eight starts. The Lake Jackson, Texas, native registered 30 at-bats with three dingers, a double and 11 RBI.
#13 Jourdyn Campbell (So.| Kingwood, Texas)
Campbell appeared in all 26 games for the Maroon & White in her rookie year. After spending her freshman campaign in the infield, Campbell has made the transition to the outfield. She led the Aggies with 13 doubles while recording 15 RBI. Campbell ranked second in the nation in doubles and eighth in doubles per game to help post her .329 batting average. In her 70 at-bats she tallied 23 hits.
