BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Three Aggies were recognized for their strong play in 2020-21 by being named to the All-Southeastern Conference Men's Golf Team, the conference office announced.
Earning All-SEC honors were junior Sam Bennett (Madisonville, Texas), senior Dan Erickson (Whittier, Calif.) and freshman Daniel Rodrigues (Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal). The Aggies are gearing up for the NCAA Albuquerque Regional, which will be contested May 17-19 at the Championship Course at the University of New Mexico.
Bennett earned first-team All-SEC honors with a dominant performance in 2021 that included a trio of tournament victories, a couple of SEC Golfer of the Week honors and being named the National Golfer of the Month for March by the Ben Hogan Award. Additionally, Bennett was a semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award and was recently named to Team USA for the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup.
Earning second-team All-SEC was Erickson, who was clutch for the Aggies throughout his "super" senior season. Erickson was victorious at the Border Olympics in the 2021 opener and earned top 10 finishes in five of nine starts this season. A great finisher, Erickson was under-par in the final round of seven tournaments, including five rounds in the 60s. He was second on the team with a 71.48 scoring average and his score counted in 27 of 29 rounds.
Rodrigues earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team after becoming a regular fixture in the Aggies' lineup in the spring season after just one appearance during the fall. Also a strong finisher, Rodrigues was even or under par in all five spring tournaments he competed, including a 4-under 68 in the Aggies' win at the Border Olympics. Rodrigues was undefeated in match play at SECs with a 1-up victory over Georgia's Davis Thompson and a draw against Arkansas' Tyson Reeder.
