BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Texas A&M men's and women's teams earned 24 All-Southeastern Conference honors, while Tyra Gittens and Athing Mu earned SEC field athlete of the year and freshman runner of the year awards, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.

Gittens, the nation's top multi-athlete, finished the SEC Championships as the top female point-scorer with 23 points, earning the Commissioner's Trophy. She won the heptathlon, placed second in the open high jump and fourth in the open long jump. Gittens is qualified for the NCAA Championships in the long jump, high jump and heptathlon.

The redshirt junior scored 6,418 points in the heptathlon, an SEC meet record and Texas A&M school record. She became the third best collegian all-time in the event. She cleared 6-4.75 (1.95m) in the heptathlon high jump which matched the sixth-best performer in collegiate history and tied the all-time collegiate heptathlon best. Gittens met the Olympic qualifying standard in the long jump with a mark of 22-10 (6.96m), making her the fourth-best performer in collegiate history in the event, regardless if it happened in the open or within the confines of the multi. She became the first woman in world history to accomplish such marks in the high jump and long jump within the same heptathlon.

Mu, the nation's top freshman, scored 12.5 points at the SEC Championships winning titles in the 400m and as a member of the 4x400m. She set an American Under-20 record with a time of 49.84. She anchored the Aggies 4x400m to an SEC winning time of 3:26.17. Mu has qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400m and as a member of the 4x400m.

Most recently, Mu bettered her American U-20 400m record clocking 49.68 to finish as the top qualifier at the NCAA West Regional. Her time set the all-time collegiate record, her second collegiate record this outdoor season after breaking the 800m record at the Michael Johnson Invitational with a time of 1:57.73. Mu has met the Olympic qualifying standard in both the 400m and 800m.
