Feb 14, 2021 | Track and Field
STATEN ISLAND – Reigning 800-meter World Champion and former Texas A&M NCAA Champion Donavan Brazier broke his own American record winning the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix 800m on Staten Island in New York City.
Brazier, a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, broke his own American record with a time of 1:44.21. He shaved .01 off the previous record that he set last year at the NYRR Millrose Games. He is undefeated in races he has finished at that distance since June 2019. Brazier's time put him in a tie for No. 4 on the all-time world performer list, and was enough to win by more than two seconds.
The record is pending ratification by USATF.
During his one season in Aggieland, Brazier won the 2016 NCAA Championship in the outdoor 800m with an American record and collegiate record time of 1:43.55.
