BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Athletics' 12th Man Centennial Celebration presented by Valero, honoring the birth of the most famous tradition in college sports, continues into the spring semester with a hefty slate of fireworks and giveaways.
Often imitated but never duplicated, Texas A&M's 12th Man began with a simple act a century ago when student E. King Gill came out of the stands and stood ready to enter the game when the out-matched and injury-riddled Aggie football team was facing the top-ranked Praying Colonels of Centre College in the Dixie Classic on January 2, 1922. Today, the 12th Man refers to the student body at Texas A&M, as well as all supporters of Texas A&M athletics teams. The 12th Man Centennial celebrates fans of the Aggies – past and present.
As the celebration continues into the spring, both baseball and softball will have postgame firework shows after every SEC Friday night game, starting with softball's SEC home opener vs Florida on Friday, March 18 at Davis Diamond. To purchase your tickets for these events in advance visit 12thMan.com/Tickets.
Along with the scheduled firework shows, giveaways geared around the Centennial celebration will continue. Those items include commemorative baseballs, softballs, track & field batons, and miniature replica 12th Man Statues.
