ATHENS, Ga. – The Texas A&M women's golf team grabbed a share of the lead after the first round of the University of Georgia's Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Friday at the UGA Golf Course.

The No. 16-ranked Aggies fired a 5-over par 293 and sit atop the team standings with No. 3 Vanderbilt. Rounding out the top five teams were No. 17 Arkansas (+6), No. 4 South Carolina (+7), No. 12 Alabama (+11), and No. 13 USC (+11).

The Aggies finished the first day with a pair of golfers in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard. Senior transfer Hailee Cooper stood in a tie for 4th after carding a 1-under 71, while senior Brooke Tyree was tied for 6th with an even par round of 72.

"I'm so proud of the way the team hung in there and competed," first-year Aggie head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "It was easily the toughest conditions we've faced all year and the girls really competed at a high level all day. I was excited to see this new lineup because we've lacked consistency at the four and five spots. Hailee and Brooke really carried us today and that was great to see."

Also contributing counting rounds were juniors Jennie Park and Blanca Fernández García-Poggio, who both turned in 3-over par rounds of 75 and were tied for 26. Sophomore Zoe Slaughter was in a tie for 46th with a 6-over 78, and graduate Amber Park, competing as an individual, was tied for 36th with a 4-over 76.

The Aggies are paired with the College of Charleston in the second round and tee off from the first tee beginning at 8:15 a.m. CT.
