Acquah Wins Long Jump, Aggies Conclude Day One of Tom Jones Invite

The Texas A&M men's and women's track team concluded day one of the Tom Jones Invitational, while Deborah Acquah won the women's long jump, Friday night at the James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track.

GAINESVILLE, Fla.– The Texas A&M men's and women's track team concluded day one of the Tom Jones Invitational, while Deborah Acquah won the women's long jump, Friday night at the James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track.
 
Acquah took an early lead landing at 21-10/6.65m (w/2.1) on her first attempt, followed by failing her next two attempts. It was on the fourth attempt when the senior recorded a mark of 22-2.5/6.77m (w/3.4) that extended her lead. Acquah followed her next two attempts at 21-4.25/6.51m (w/0.2) and 21-11.75/6.70m (w/1.2). All four of her successful jumps bested runner-up Claire Bryant of Florida's mark of 21-2.5/6.46m (w/1.9).
 
Wise, a senior, highlighted the night on the track finishing as the top collegian in the women's 400m Hurdles with a time of 56.19. The time moves her to No. 4 on the school's all-time list and makes her the fifth fastest performer in the country this season. 
 
Moitalel Mpoke followed suit crossing the line in the men's 400m Hurdles as the top collegian. The junior finished with a time of 49.41, followed by junior James Smith II placing seventh at a time of 50.25.
 
Freshmen Lianna Davidson and Katelyn Fairchild moved up the school's record list in the women's javelin. Davidson threw 182-7/55.66m to move to No. 5 all-time, while Fairchild improved her eighth best performer mark with a throw of 179-2/54.62m.
 
In the men's javelin, sophomore Julian Stoicociviu placed ninth with a personal best toss of 195-2/59.19m.
 
Sophomore Carter Bajoit placed third in the men's high jump with a clearance of 7-0.5/2.15m, while senior Spencer Simons and junior Zach Davis each cleared 16-7.5/5.07m in the men's pole vault placing fourth and fifth, respectively.
 
Other notable performances include sophomore Laila Owens finishing fifth in the women's 200m at 23.00 (w/1.3) and sophomore Ryan Martin placing ninth at 20.79 (w/3.0).
 
Freshman Bryce Foster finished the men's discus with a personal best mark of 166-9/50.84m to place 13th overall. Fellow freshman Heather Abadie placed sixth in the women's pole vault at 13-3.75/4.06m.

Bryan Clay Invitational Update
Freshman Gemma Goddard registered a personal best in the women's 1500m at 4:31.20, while junior Gavin Hoffpauir (3:45.60) and sophomore Cooper Cawthra (3:45.82) each ran in the men's 1500m. The meet is still ongoing and results will be updated to 12thman.com when available.
