BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M men's golf team announced its 2021-22 annual team awards as part of Aggie Golf Day at Traditions Club.

Sam Bennett was named the team's Most Valuable Player. The nation's No. 1 player in the Golfstat rankings holds 69.42 stroke average and registered a win at the Louisiana Classics with an 18-under 198, the second-lowest score in program history. The Madisonville, Texas, native recorded six top-five finishes and carded 19 rounds at par-or-better. Â

The Most Improved Player Award went to Evan Myers. The Northbrook, Illinois, native appeared in four tournaments and holds a 74.33 scoring average. The sophomore tied for eighth at The Aggie Invitational, and recorded season-best rounds of 71 at The Aggie and Louisiana Classics.

Phichaksn Maichon was named the Newcomer of the Year as the freshman appeared in eight tournaments and has a scoring average of 73.21. The Bangkok native was the 36-hole leader at the SEC Championship after tallying back-to-back rounds of 67. In his first career tournament, he helped the Aggies to the tournament title at the Marquette Intercollegiate as he shot 3-under and tied for 22nd.

Receiving the coveted Bob Ellis Leadership Award was Michael Heidelbaugh. The redshirt freshman appeared in eight tournaments and is the team representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Heidelbaugh's best finish came in the Aggies' win at the Marquette Intercollegiate where he tied for 12th at 5-under.

William Paysse earned the B.K. & Jane Watson Academic Achievement Award. Paysse holds a 3.805 GPA in Sport Management and has twice been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar last season. This year, he has competed in nine tournaments and holds a 71.69 scoring average while finishing inside the top 20 on four occasions.
