BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M student-athletes Jace Brown (men's swimming & diving) and Star Ferguson (softball) recently participated in the Southeastern Conference Career Tour event in Atlanta last weekend.
The SEC Career Tour provides exposure for SEC student-athletes who are seeking career opportunities in various fields. The program allows student-athletes to connect with human resource recruiters and submit resumes for entry-level jobs, internships and gain valuable knowledge of professional branding.
Â
"The SEC Career Tour was such an amazing experience," Ferguson said. "I was able to connect with athletes outside my sport as well as walk away with valuable knowledge that can help me in my professional career. The tour opened the door to so many opportunities for me. The networking alone was amazing. I left the tour feeling confident and excited to start the next steps in my life after my sport. Thank you, SEC Career Tour and thank you Texas A&M University. I am blessed to have been selected for such a great experience."
Â
Brown and Ferguson were two of 27 participants from 14 SEC schools. The group had the opportunity to meet with executives at several corporations and organizations in the Atlanta area including Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Cox Enterprises, KPMG, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), Mercedes-Benz USA and Lockheed Martin.
Â
"I loved the SEC tour," Brown said. "I am very grateful for being given the opportunity to attend this special event. Being able to spend time, get to know and learn from other outstanding athletes in the SEC will be something I will always remember. I learned so much about networking, the life outside of college, ways to excel in the workforce and ways to get your foot in the door with potential job opportunities. Also, thank you to all the amazing companies and employees that took the time from their busy schedules to talk to us and teach us about their companies and personal, life experiences. I learned more from the SEC Career Tour than I ever thought I would."
Â
The Aggie pair finished the three-day event at the site of the SEC Championship game where they met with Mercedes-Benz Stadium staff and had a tour of the facility.
