Aggies Blitz Blinn and Brookhaven to Open Spring Slate

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies opened their spring soccer slate with victories over Blinn College, 4-0, and Dallas College-Brookhaven, 8-0, in a pair of 60-minute matches Friday evening at Ellis Field.
"It was great to be back at Ellis Field and playing against new opponents," Texas A&M head coach G Guerrieri said. "Brookhaven is defending NJCAA national champion and Blinn is an up-and-coming program. They're both well-coached, so this was a good test to start the spring campaign."
The Aggies started the evening with their match against Blinn, notching two goals in each half. MaKhiya McDonald scored on an assist from Westyn Henderson and freshman newcomers connected with Georgia Leb registering a goal with a helper from Sydney Becerra. In the second half, Sawyer Dumond assisted on goals by Macy Matula and Natalie Yoo to close out the match.
Texas A&M overwhelmed Brookhaven in the nightcap with Kate Colvin logging two goals and three assists. Vanderbilt transfer Quinn Cornog logged two goals and Laney Carroll had one goal on a penalty kick and an assist. Taylor Pounds, Ali Russell and Sydney Becerra chipped in with one goal apiece and Lauren Gezcik and McDonald added assists.
"I like being able to play a couple mini games in one day to get all our healthy players on the field," Guerrieri said. "It was great to see how comfortable our newcomers are with their Aggie teammates. It was awesome to see Quinn (Cornog), Georgia (Leb) and Syd (Becerra) all score in their spring season debuts."
The Aggies racked up 26 shots-on-goal and 25 corner kicks in the 120 minutes of play.
"Today is something we can build upon this week as we prepare for a road game next week in Huntsville.
The Aggies return to action on Saturday, March 5, when they travel for a 2 p.m. contest against the Sam Houston Bearkats.
