Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Texas A&M men's and women's track & field teams open the 2022 outdoor season on March 18-19 at the Baldy Castillo Invitational at the Joe Selleh Track at Sun Angel Stadium.
Notables
Texas A&M finished the indoor season with 19 All-America honors, including three national championship event titles. Lamara Distin (high jump, 6-3.5/1.92m) and Brandon Miller (800m, 1:47.19) claimed titles in their respective individual events, while Miller, Emmanuel Bamidele, Chevannie Hanson and Omajuwa Etiwe combined to win the 4x400m national title at 3:04.16. The men's team finished fifth with 26 points, while the women's team placed 10th with 24 points.

Distin and Miller were named United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Regional Athletes of the Year. Distin won the Women's Field Athlete of the Year, while Miller won the Men's Track Athlete of the Year. Distin's season highlights include winning six of the seven high jump competitions entered, as well as NCAA and Southeastern Conference titles. She finished the season on a high note, clearing 6-3/1.90m and higher in the last three meets. The Hanover, Jamaica, native first broke a 46-year old Jamaican national record (6-3.5/1.93m) at the Don Kirby Open on Feb. 11, and matched that height to claim her first career national title on March 12.
Miller dominated distances from the 600m to 800m, as well as contributing to the 4x400m relay. The St. Louis, Missouri, native finished the indoor campaign a two-time NCAA national champion (800m, 4x400m) and defended his SEC 800m title. Most notably, Miller became the first Aggie in school history to claim the indoor 800m national title. His season-best 800m time of 1:45.24 broke the American collegiate and Texas A&M record previously held by Devin Dixon (1:45.27), while his season-best 600m time of 1:15.49 registered as an under-20 world all-time best.
