Women’s Golf Earns Runner-Up Finish at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic
Mar 27, 2022 | Women's Golf
ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 16 Texas A&M women's golf team earned its third runner-up finish of the season on Sunday at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.
The Aggies (293-296-293—882) battled windy conditions all week but came out with their third runner-up performance of the year after shooting 5-over 293 in the final round and 18-over 882 on the week. The Maroon & White fell to No. 4 South Carolina (+10) and took down 10 ranked squads, including five Southeastern Conference opponents.
"Very happy with how we fought through the conditions and came out with a good finish," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "There are always things you can clean up, but the way we battled through adversity in a great field was very encouraging. I am excited for Hailee [Cooper] for having the weekend that she did. She has been working on her game all year, and it is great to see it pay off. We wore the 'Block T' on our hats today to symbolize togetherness and toughness. I think that is exactly what we were all week. We can't wait to get back home and get ready for the next tournament."
Hailee Cooper (71-73-75—219) led the team, tying for fifth and recording a team-high 10 birdies. The Montgomery, Texas, native shot 3-over 219. The senior locked in the first top-five finish of her career since her All-American campaign in 2019.
Right behind Cooper was Zoe Slaughter (78-71-72—221) who tied for 11th at 5-over 221. The sophomore posted the fourth top-15 finish of her season at the Liz Murphey.
Both Jennie Park (75-77-72—224) and Blanca Fernández García-Poggio (75-75-74—224) tied for 16th after carding an 8-over 224. Jennie Park extended her streak of finishing within the top-20 to four-straight tournaments. Fernández García-Poggio locked in her sixth top-20 performance of the season.
Brooke Tyree (72-78-77—227) and Amber Park (76-77-74—227), who competed as an individual, each earned a share of the 25th spot with an 11-over 227.
