Distin Wins High Jump Title, 10 Aggies Advance to Finals

OXFORD, Miss. – Texas A&M All-American Lamara Distin won the women's high jump, while 10 Aggies punched tickets to Saturday's finals Friday on day two of the Southeastern Conference Championships at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex.
Following a six-hour weather delay caused by thunderstorms, sophomore Lamara Distin highlighted the night scoring 10 points with a winning jump of 6-4.75/1.95m. The successful clearance marked the fifth time to soar 6-4/1.93m or higher this outdoor season and completes the SEC indoor and outdoor high jump title sweep.
Senior Deborah Acquah added five points of her own after placing fourth in the long jump at 21-5.25/6.53m, while junior Allyson Andress contributed one point with an eighth-place finish in the heptathlon with 4,904 points.
Other Aggie point scorers included sophomore Teddy Radtke with five in the men's 3000m steeplechase (8:54.70) and freshman Bryce Foster with one in the men's shot put (61-4/18.69m). Radtke's time made him the sixth fastest Aggie in program history.
Following two days of competition, the Aggie women's team is third with 28 points and the men's team is eighth with 14.
After six Aggies advanced to Saturday's finals on day one, 10 more registered qualifying times to see the track again.
Freshmen Emmanuel Bamidele (45.57) and Ashton Schwartzman (46.45) advanced in the men's 400m, while sophomore Charokee Young (51.35) and junior Tierra Robinson-Jones (52.16) made the cut in the women's race.
Seniors Kaylah Robinson and Deshae Wise earned automatic qualifying spots to Saturday's women's 100m hurdles finals. Robinson won heat two at a time of 12.89 (0.0w), while Wise placed third in the first heat at 13.14 (-0.3w). In the men's 110m hurdles, junior Connor Schulman secured the final qualifying spot at a time of 14.02 (0.2w).
Sophomores Ryan Martin (10.40 (-0.3w)) and Devon Achane (10.41 (-0.1w)) secured qualifying spots in the men's 100m finals, while sophomore Cooper Cawthra moved on in the men's 1500m at 3:45.37.
Senior Julia Black clocked a personal best 10:25.72 in the women's 3000m steeplechase to better her position as the second fastest Aggie all-time after placing 10th overall.
The SEC Championships conclude Saturday with the start of field events at 12:30 p.m. and running events beginning at 5:05 p.m.
