May 03, 2022 | Men's Tennis
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M men's tennis landed a pair of student-athletes in the NCAA Individual Championships, the NCAA announced Tuesday. Noah Schachter will represent the Aggies in the singles bracket, while Schachter and Kenner Taylor will pair up in the doubles competition.
First serve for the 2022 NCAA Individual Championships is set for May 23, with competition running thru May 28 at the Kahn Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois.
"I am very happy for both Noah and Kenner for making the NCAA Individual Championship field," head coach Steve Denton said. "This selection is a testament to their hard work this season. Both players have a great passion for the game and it is great that they are both being rewarded for it. Playing against the elite players in college tennis will be a great opportunity for their continued development as athletes."
Schachter, a native of Wesley Chapel, Florida, is set to make his first career appearance in the NCAA Singles Championships. The junior has amassed 17 overall victories this season with 11 of those wins coming during the dual match slate, earning First Team All-SEC honors in the process. Schachter owns seven ranked wins in 2022 and stands as A&M's active leader in career singles victories with a 69 wins.
Schachter and Taylor surged as a doubles tandem in the latter half of the dual match campaign, compiling a 14-6 record at the No. 1 position. A&M's headline doubles team has racked up five ranked wins, including a 6-3 thrashing of seventh-ranked Sam Riffice and Ben Shelton of Florida. The duo has risen to the No. 18 spot in the ITA Doubles Rankings, placing them as the fourth-highest ranked team in the Southeastern Conference. Schachter and Taylor get set to make their first NCAA Doubles Championship appearance as a pairing.
The Maroon & White return to action as a team on Friday, May 6, for opening round action in the 2022 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships. A&M squares off against the Tulsa Hurricanes at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas, with first serve slated for 3 p.m. (CT).
