Women’s Golf in First After Day One of Clover Cup

The No. 10 Texas A&M women's golf team jumped out in front of the field after the first round of the Clover Cup on Friday with a 5-under, 283 at the par-72, 6,184-yard Longbow Golf Club.

MESA, Arizona – The No. 10 Texas A&M women's golf team jumped out in front of the field after the first round of the Clover Cup on Friday with a 5-under, 283 at the par-72, 6,184-yard Longbow Golf Club.
 
"We didn't totally play up to our expectations today, but still lead this tournament after the first round," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "We are in the final group tomorrow and we need to apply some of the things that we learned about the course today to our game. We are looking forward to attacking the second round and improving on today's performance."
 
The Maroon & White boasted five golfers in the top 20 and led second-place New Mexico (-4) by one stroke. A&M paced the field with 20 birdies and shot a staggering 12-under on par fives.
 
Lana Calibuso-Kwee led the way for the Aggies, registering a team-low 3-under, 69 in the first round. The Wailuku, Hawaii, native stood tied for first after the first 18, knotted up with five other golfers in the field for the individual lead.
 
Adela Cernousek walked off the course on Friday in sole possession of seventh. The sophomore turned in a clean score card, logging two birdies and going bogey free in the first round.
 
Hailee Cooper and Zoe Slaughter each held a share of 12th after day one. Both Aggies shot even par and nailed five and four birdies, respectively.
 
Jennie Park rounded out the lineup at 1-over, 73 and tied for 20th heading into the second round. Blanca Fernández García-Poggio competed as an individual and shot 4-over, 76 and tied for 34th.
