BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –?Sophomore Horsemanship rider Ellie Gerbrandt was named the SEC Equestrian Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced Saturday during the SEC Championship Final.Â
Gerbrandt is majoring in Allied Health at Texas A&M and boasts a 4.0 grade point average. The Roberts Creek, British Columbia, native was named to the Athletics Director Honor Roll in 2021 and 2022. Additionally, she was a part of last season's NCEA Academic Honor Roll.Â
While thriving in school, Gerbrandt has also had an impressive season on the Texas A&M equestrian team. She has amassed five wins in Horsemanship, earning MOP honors as she registered a season-high 74.5 points at No. 8 Fresno State (9/30). The sophomore has put up a score of 72 points or higher on nine different occasions, including the season-high 74.5 an additional three times.Â
Gerbrandt is the first Aggie to receive this award since Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2012. Â
