AUGUSTA, Ga. – Texas A&M golfer Jennie Park and incoming freshman Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio both made the cut on Thursday at the Augusta National Women's Amateur, advancing to the final round scheduled for Saturday at the historic Augusta National Golf Club.
The first two rounds were played at the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club where Fernández García-Poggio shot 2-under, 142 and tied for sixth and Park went even-par 144 and earned a share of 14th heading into the final round.
Texas A&M and No. 1 Stanford were the only two schools with golfers inside the top-15 after round two of the ANWA.
Fernández García-Poggio is one of nine non-collegiate golfers to make the cut. Additionally, 13 golfers making their debuts at the ANWA, including Fernández García-Poggio and Park, will be playing the final round at Augusta National Golf Club. Rose Zhang of Stanford led the field at 13-under 131 after the first 36 holes.
Fernández García-Poggio holed six birdies and went 3-under 69 in the second round, despite a double-bogey on No. 3. The 17-year-old and No. 7 amateur golf in the world was paired with No. 1 ranked Zhang and Japan's No. 3 ranked Saki Baba.
Park began the round with two-straight bogeys but recovered with birdies on five of the next eight holes. The Carrollton, Texas, native was right on the cut line heading into the final two holes of the round but finished the round with birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 to safely make the final 18 with a 3-under 69 in round two.
