SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The No. 1-seeded Aggies tied for first at the conclusion of the first round of the NCAA San Antonio Regional after Hailee Cooper's even-par round led the way on Monday at the TPC San Antonio Oaks Course.

"I am very proud of the way we finished," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "The start was a little sloppy and really everyone was a little sloppy at some point during their round. You can chalk that up to nerves or this being a really tough golf course, but we learned something from today. I told the team that the golf course is going to win this week. It is very difficult, but we just have to be tough and pick our spots and go from there."

The Aggies shot 7-over 295 on the incredibly difficult regional course. They stood tied with Oklahoma State and four shots above the current cutline. A&M would need to maintain its position within the top five by the end of the third round in order to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Cooper was a steady force for A&M, as her even-par round earned her a share off fifth heading into day two. The graduate student saved her clean round with a great up-and-down for par on No. 18 after hitting her second shot into the penalty zone, which forced her to take a drop. Cooper notched birdies on Nos. 4, 6, 14 and 16 to lead the squad.

Adela Cernousek shot 1-over 73 and tied for 11th. The Sophomore also had a clutch showing on 18 when she drilled a 12-foot birdie putt that got her into the clubhouse and earned back a stroke for her team.

Blanca Fernández García-Poggio and Jennie Park both tied for 23rd and shot 3-over 75. Park began her day with a quad bogey on No. 1 but proved her fortitude by going 2-under in the final 14 holes of her day. Zoe Slaughter rounded out the lineup tied for 55th.
