INDIANAPOLIS – Eight Texas A&M athletics programs surpassed the 990 multi-year Academic Progress Rating, and four Aggie teams recorded a perfect multi-year APR rating during the 2018-19 to 2021-22 academic years, the NCAA announced Tuesday.Â
Â
The Aggies recorded a 985 multi-year average for the four-year period. Ten programs registered their highest multi-year average with men's tennis, women's cross country, women's golf and volleyball turning in perfect (1,000) APR multi-year scores.
Â
"I am incredibly proud of all of our programs and the Center for Student-Athlete Services for their hard work in achieving this round of Academic Progress Rates," director of athletics Ross Bjork said. "The APR for each program is collected over a four-year period and showcases each team's ability to retain and graduate their student-athletes throughout their collegiate careers. To have four teams obtain perfect multi-year scores and eight at 990-or-higher is a phenomenal accomplishment. These results are on brand with our vision of being the pinnacle of opportunities realized through sports: championships won, diplomas earned, leaders equipped and launched to impact the world."
Â
Men's cross country, men's golf, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's cross country, equestrian, women's golf and volleyball all locked in multi-year APR results 990-or higher.
Â
"We salute the four teams that achieved perfect Academic Progress Rates," associate athletics director of academic services Dr. Dan Childs said. "Additionally, eight teams earned 990-or-higher rankings, along with a number of other programs that consistently excel academically. Through championship athletics, the Athletic Department encourages our student-athletes to achieve academic and athletic success. We are very proud of our student-athletes for taking advantage of all the academic opportunities available to them."
Â
The Academic Progress Rate measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. It also serves as a predictor of graduation success. The NCAA's Division I Board of Directors set cut scores of 930 (out of 1,000) as a threshold for teams to meet or face possible immediate and historical sanctions. An APR of 930 translates to approximately a 50 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
