ABU DHABI, U.A.E. – Aggie golfers Adela Cernousek and Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio are set to take part in the 30th Women's Amateur Team Championship at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club Oct. 25-28.
Cernosuek will be competing for France while Fernández García-Poggio will be playing for Spain. Each country at the world championship is represented by 2-3 golfers throughout the four-day, 72-hole tournament. Each round, the two lowest scores from each respective team will be combined for the team's daily stroke-play score.
The winning country will receive the Espirito Santo Trophy for the ensuing two years. Members of the winning team also receive gold medals and an individual champions will be crowned at the conclusion of the championship.
Cernousek is leading the Aggies this season in stroke average (70.22) and came in second at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. Fernández García-Poggio is the No. 3 ranked amateur in the world, according to the World Amateur Golf Ranking, and is second on the team in stroke average (71.67).
