Williams Named NABC District 20 Coach of the Year
Mar 14, 2023 | Men's Basketball
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams was named NABC District 20 Coach of the Year and standout guard Wade Taylor IV received second-team all-district honors, the organization announced.
Williams, who was named SEC Coach of the Year by the Associated Press and coaches, guided the Aggies to their first trip to March Madness since 2018. He orchestrated a historic regular season with the Aggies, who won 15 conference games for the first time in 100 years and tallied their first undefeated conference home state in more than 40 years.
Taylor IV, a sophomore from Dallas, Texas, was a consensus first-team All-SEC selection and received third-team All-America honors from Stadium.com. Taylor IV averaged 16.5 points, which ranked No. 3 in the SEC for the full season, while leading the SEC in free throws made with 168 and FT percentage with an 87.5% success rate at the line. Taylor ranked fourth in assists (136) and fifth in steals (60).
Williams has overseen the program's top two highest AP Top 25 victories with the win over No. 2 Alabama in the regular season finale and last year's win over No. 4 Auburn at the SEC Tournament. The win over Alabama marked Texas A&M's first-ever top five win on its home court and the fourth-ever over a top 10-ranked opponent on its home floor.
The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division I.
