BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Former Ohio State University compliance director Jamie Wood has been selected as the newly-created Assistant Athletics Director for Name, Image and Likeness at Texas A&M, Director of Athletics Ross Bjork announced.
In his new role, Wood will strategically guide the day-to-day NIL operations for Texas A&M Athletics while proactively supporting its 600-plus student-athletes on the optimization of their NIL opportunities. He will serve as the liaison for Athletics on all NIL-related matters and provide support, education, governance and the execution of any future changes as NIL and college athletics continues to evolve.
"Texas A&M is constantly seeking to stay ahead of the curve in support of our student-athletes and creating a position to oversee the day-to-day activities around our plan and vision for Name, Image and Likeness helps us reach that goal," Bjork said. "We feel very fortunate to be able to recruit someone of Jamie Wood's caliber as we continue to proactively guide Texas A&M student-athletes in the evolving NIL space.
"The world of collegiate athletics is ever-changing, and it's important to have the pulse of all aspects of the new landscape. At the Home of the 12th Man, we want leaders like Jamie boldly pushing ahead in this dynamic era and continue our mission of creating opportunities through championship athletics."
Most recently, Wood served as Associate Director of Compliance and had dual responsibility as the sports administrator for the Buckeye track & field and cross country program. Within his role in compliance, Wood played an integral role in the development and facilitation of the Elite Athlete programming and oversaw all facets of the disability insurance and agent registration processes. He also had compliance oversight for the men's & women's gymnastics programs, women's synchronized swimming and Ohio State's spirit program.
"Texas A&M has one of the most storied athletic programs in the country, rich with longstanding traditions that personify the Aggie Spirit," Wood said. "In this new era of college athletics, we have the opportunity to utilize the vehicle of NIL to equip our student-athletes with tangible skills and resources that will help them well beyond their time on campus. I am grateful that Ross and Joe (Fields) saw me fit to lead our efforts in this space, and I'm excited to fully embrace what it means to be an Aggie."
"Jamie is an innovative and strategic leader with a unique perspective of the NIL landscape," Deputy AD Fields, who oversees all student-athlete services including NIL for Texas A&M Athletics, said. "His background as a student-athlete and in NCAA compliance makes him uniquely qualified to lead our NIL efforts. We are excited that he has joined us in Aggieland."
A native of Pickerington, Ohio, Jamie was a highly touted high school prospect (Army All-American) before enrolling early at Ohio State in the spring of 2009. His college career was cut short and he ended his playing days as a two-year letterwinner in football, before multiple shoulder injuries ended his career. Wood earned a bachelor's degree in strategic communication in 2012 and a master's in sport management in 2019 from Ohio State.
