BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 14 Texas A&M men's tennis team defeated the SMU Mustangs, 7-0, on Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

"It is always great to come home and play in a great atmosphere in front of the 12th Man," head coach Steve Denton said. "It was crucial today to seize the momentum. The crowd got us through today, especially in the doubles after a big fight. I am very happy for the guys to fight back and play such a spirited match. I thought our leader, Raphael Perot, set the tone today by playing very well against a very good young player in Svajda. His work ethic and passion for the team is infectious and has made a great impact on our other younger players. I am very proud of his accomplishments so far this season."

Giulio Perego/Togan Tokac fell to Huntley Allen/Adam Neff on court 1, 2-6, to begin doubles action. However, the Aggies evened the score with a dominant win from Luke Casper/JC Roddick who took down Jerry Barton/Trevor Svajda on court 2, 6-2. Raphael Perot/Tiago Pires clinched the doubles point for the Maroon & White on court 3 in a three-set thriller, 7-5, against Maks Silagy/Julian Steinhausen. Perot/Pires had fallen behind 5-2 but rallied back to give A&M the lead heading into singles.

After securing the doubles point, Raphael Perot went to work on court 1, winning in straight sets over Trevor Svajda, (6-0, 6-3). Reigning SEC Freshman of the Week Tiago Pires got the Aggies one win closer on court 5 with a victory against Louis Cloud (6-4, 6-4). Clinching the match for the Maroon & White was No. 93 Luke Casper, who beat Maks Silagy on court 6, (7-6, 6-1).

Once the Aggies clinched, Giulio Perego and No. 109 JC Roddick earned ranked wins over No. 98 Jerry Barton and No. 88 Adam Neff, respectively. Togan Tokac also earned a victory against Liam Krall to give A&M the clean sweep in its home opener.

The Maroon & White return home on Tuesday, Feb. 6, to face the ACU Wildcats at 3:30 p.m.
