MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Texas A&M women's golf team finished the second round in sixth after shooting 10-over 298 through wet and windy conditions at the Moon Golf Invitational on Monday.
"We got some really tough weather to start the day," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "It rained pretty much through the first nine holes. Our finish today kept us in it, but we aren't satisfied with our performance. We have a good round ahead of us tomorrow and I know we can play well and turn in a respectable finish."
Texas A&M finished 10 shots over par, but so did 11 teams in the field through the less-than-ideal conditions in the morning. Despite the over-par finish, the Maroon & White climbed one spot on the team leaderboard into sixth.
The Aggies were led by Jennie Park who fired a rare even-par 72 round where the average score hovered close to a 76 in round two. Park rallied on the last six holes of the day, knocking down three birdies and turning in three pars. The senior tied for 24th entering the third round.
Cernousek continued her hold on a top five spot with a 3-over 75 in the second round. The junior held a share of fourth. Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio turned in a 4-over 76 and tied for 36th after 36 holes.
Blanca Fernández García-Poggio and Mia Nixon tied for 47th and 84th, respectively, to round out the lineup.
The Aggies will tee off the second round at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start on Tuesday to start the final round.
