BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M soccer team welcomes the Dallas Baptist Patriots and Houston Cougars to Ellis Field for matches Sunday, commencing the 2024 spring schedule.
Texas A&M plays 60-minute games against DBU at 1 p.m. and Houston at 5 p.m. The Aggies take an intermission at 3 p.m. as the Patriots and Cougars duke it out.
Admission is free for the day's festivities.
The Maroon & White wrapped up the 30th winning season in 31 years of the program in 2023. The Aggies posted a 10-8-4 record, playing in their 28th NCAA Tournament in the last 29 years and advancing to the second round for the 24th time in the last 26 years – a mark eclipsed only by North Carolina.
Texas A&M returns 19 letterwinners from the 2023 campaign, including eight players who started at least 50 percent of last season's 22 matches. The returnees account for 34 of the Aggies' 45 goals from last season. Texas A&M welcomes back All-SEC performers Carolyn Calzada and Mia Pante. Other key returnees include former SEC All-Freshman performers Adysen Armenta, Quinn Cornog and Margo Matula.
The Patriots enjoyed much success in 2023, posting a 14-1-4 mark. They claimed the Lone Star Conference double for the third time since 2019 with a 9-0-3 mark in regular season play and triumphs over Midwestern State (1-0) and St. Mary's (4-0) to earn the tournament trophy. DBU returns a pair of prodigious scorers including Taylor Tufts (7 goals, 17 assists) and Sophia Schrock (10 goals, 6 assists).
The Cougars were 8-8-2 in 2023 with a 2-7-1 mark in their first Big 12 campaign. The highlight of the season was a 2-1 victory over West Virginia and a 2-2 tie against then No. 21 TCU. Houston's top two scorers from last year return, including Cameryn Maddux (7 goals, 2 assists) and Aryanna Jimison (5 goals, 4 assists). Starting goalkeeper Olivia Dietrich (7-7-2, 1.69 gaa, 2 shutouts) returns to mind the woodwork.
Sunday is the first of three spring exhibition dates for the Aggies at Ellis Field. They also host Texas Southern Tuesday, April 2 for an 8 p.m. bout and TCU Sunday, April 7 for a 2 p.m. match. Texas A&M heads to Waco Saturday, March 23 for mini-matches against Baylor and UIW. The Maroon & White wrap up the spring session in San Marcos with mini-matches against Texas State and A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday, April 13.
