Maichon Named SEC Golfer of the Week

Maichon conquered the par-72, 6,898 Oakbourne Country Club with his tournament tying 18-under 198 to win the Louisiana Classics by a record-breaking eight-stroke margin.

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Phichaksn Maichon earned SEC Men's Golfer of the Week recognition the league announced Thursday.

Maichon conquered the par-72, 6,898 Oakbourne Country Club with his tournament tying 18-under 198 to win the Louisiana Classics by a record-breaking eight-stroke margin.

Starting the final round with a one-stroke lead, Maichon left the field in his wake with his second bogeyless round of the day. He fired seven birdies in the final round for a 7-under 65. Maichon's 18-under tied Louisiana Classics mark set by former teammate Sam Bennett in winning the 2022 event.

Maichon opened the tournament with six birdies and an eagle as he equaled his collegiate career best with an 8-under 64. He hit all 18 greens in regulation in the opening round. He keyed Texas A&M's win at the event as the Maroon & White cruised to a 17-stroke victory.

The effort marked Maichon's second career victory. He triumphed at the 2023 Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational last April.

With the win, the Bangkok, Thailand, native vaulted 64 spots up the Clippd National Rankings into the No. 13 spot.

The Aggies return to action March 25-26 when they travel to Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Florida, for the Valspar Collegiate.
