TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 17 Texas A&M women's golf team finished the first round of the MountainView Collegiate in a tie for third on Friday at the Preserve at Saddlebrooke golf course.

"Mother nature really won today," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "The elements got the best of everyone in the field. All things considered, I think we finished really strong and ended on a positive note. Very proud of how we toughed it out and looking forward to tomorrow."

Texas A&M turned in a 1-over 289 after 18 holes and was seven shots back of South Florida (-6) who was leading the field. Houston (-1), Kansas State (+1) and Missouri (+2) rounded the top five.

Adela Cernousek and Blanca Fernández GarcĂa-Poggio both stood tied for ninth after firing a pair of 1-under 71 rounds. Cernousek utilized an eagle on No. 8 that earned her the below-par round. Blanca Fernández GarcĂa-Poggio entered the back nine 2-over but shot a 33 over the last nine holes sneak into the top 10.

Jennie Park held onto a share of 23rd after posting a 1-over 73 and Zoe Slaughter was the final counting score, firing a 2-over 74 and hanging on to a piece of 29th. Cayetana Fernández GarcĂa-Poggio shot a 4-over 76 and tied for 52nd. Mia Nixon competed as an individual and was tied for 73rd.
