SUNSET, S.C. – The No. 19 Texas A&M women's golf team finished the first round of the Clemson Invitational on Friday in a tie for second after Zoe Slaughter fired a 3-under 69 at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.
"We got off to a slow start but had a really good middle to end of the round," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "It was great to see Zoe put together a great day. She has been working on her game and she found something that brought some firepower to the course."
Texas A&M turned in a 3-under 285 as a team and was five strokes behind Vanderbilt (-8). It held a share of second with host Clemson and LSU (-1) and Ohio State (E) rounded out the top five.
Slaughter started the day 2-over thru seven holes but caught fire with four birdies in six holes on the back nine. The senior followed that up with two more birdies on holes three and four to complete her round. Slaughter was knotted up for fourth after 18.
