NORMAN – The No. 8 Texas A&M men's tennis team fell to the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners, 5-2, Tuesday at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
Â
"I thought it was a hard-fought match," head coach Steve Denton said. "After getting beat in the doubles, we did a good job of responding early in the singles. We are making progress with a few guys that will make us only better in the end. We have had some hard lessons along the way that we are learning from, and I am confident that as a team, we will figure it out. I really like this team and I believe something special lies ahead."
Â
The Aggies (18-6, 7-2 SEC) got off to a slow start after losses on courts 2 and 3 in doubles play to go down 1-0 heading into singles action.
Â
Luke Casper got A&M on the board with a win against Mark Mandlik on court 6 (6-1, 6-2). The Sooners (17-2, 4-0 Big 12) responded with victories on courts 1 and 2 to make the score 3-1. Togan Tokac took down Jordan Hasson on court 3 (7-6 (9-7), 6-4) to keep the match alive, but Oklahoma would clinch the victory on court 4.
Â
The Aggies return to the Mitchell Tennis Center Sunday, April 7, to host Arkansas for the final SEC home match of the season at 1 p.m.
