Nelson recently closed out a successful sophomore campaign in Aggieland, notching a pair of top-eight individual finishes at NCAA Championships after defending both of his SEC IM titles en route to earning his second Commissioner's Trophy as a high-scorer at the conference championship meet. He took down the school record in the 400 IM with a time of 3:37.46 to place third at NCAAs, adding an eighth-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:41.54. The Huntersville, North Carolina, native is now a six-time All-American and has medaled six times at SEC Championships after earning gold in both the 200 IM and 400 IM for the second straight season and a bronze in the 200 breast. A journalism studies major, Nelson has also impressed in the classroom as he boasts a 3.66 GPA and has been named to the First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll and AD Honor Roll.

The 2023-24 CSC Academic All-District Men's Swimming & Diving teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes men's swimming & diving honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District honorees will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced April 24, 2024.
