Aggies Shine at Penn Relays and Corky/Crofoot Shootout

The Texas A&M track & field team secured eight finals spots on the second day of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, while also winning five events on the opening day of the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock.

PHILADELPHIA – The Texas A&M track & field team secured eight finals spots on the second day of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, while also winning five events on the opening day of the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock.
 
Penn Relays
The day started with the 4x100m relays prelims, as both the men's and women's groups booked their spots in Saturday's finals. The women's team consisting of Semira Killebrew, Camryn Dickson, Leeah Burr and Laila Hackett crossed the line in 44.63 to place sixth. On the men's side, the quartet of Isaiah Teer, Devante Mount, Omarion Ferguson and Keanu Jones finished eighth in 40.42.
 
Continuing the momentum into the individual events, the Maroon & White secured four more finals spots across the 100m, 100m hurdles and 110m hurdles events. Jaiya Covington and Jasmine Harmon qualified for the 100m hurdles finals as the pair finished second (13.29) and fifth (13.55) overall, respectively. Killebrew followed suit, finishing the 100m in 11.50 to place third, while Connor Schulman advanced sixth overall to tomorrow's 110m hurdles final.
 
Both the men's and women's 4x400m relay teams finished second overall in the preliminary rounds, with Jaydan Wood, Kennedy Wade, Nissi Kabongo and Jermaisha Arnold logging their third-quickest time this season of 3:29.88. The men's team battled for top spot in their heat, as Auhmad Robinson closed out the race on the final straightaway to ensure the heat win and second-overall finish in 3:04.52.
 
The men's distance medley relay team consisting of Cooper Cawthra, Robinson, Kimar Farquharson and Sam Whitmarsh finished sixth in a time of 9:40.90, while the men's 4x200m relay team of DeMarco Escobar, Cutler Zamzow, Teer and Devante Mount placed fifth in 1:24.55.
 
Wrapping up the day for the Maroon & White was the women's sprint medley relay, as the group of Wade, Dickson, Arnold and Bailey Goggans finished second in the event with a time of 3:42.29.
 
Corky/Crofoot Shootout
The javelin events opened the meet in Lubbock, as McKenzie Fairchild and Ana De La Garza won their respective section of the event both with personal best marks. Fairchild launched herself to No. 8 in the Texas A&M record books with a mark of 55.04m/180-7, while Garza tossed 46.26m/151-9 to improve her career best.
 
Lamara Distin continued to show why she's the nation's premier high jumper, as she won her second event of the outdoor season, clearing 1.91m/6-3.25. In the long jump, John Baker finished the event first among collegians and second overall with a wind assisted leap of 7.76m/25-5.5.
 
Heather Abadie ensured her fifth outdoor victory this year in the women's pole vault after soaring over 4.17m/13-8.25. Riley Floerke also had a career day in the women's event, clearing 4.07m/13-4.25 and now ranks No. 6 on A&M's all-time list. On the men's side of the pole vault, Leo Bowen crushed his previous best with a mark of 5.27m/17-3.5 for second in the event.
 
Bryce McCray and Kirk Collins, Jr. concluded the individual events with a 1-2 finish in the men's 400m hurdles. McCray won the event in 50.32, while Collins ran a season-best time of 51.35 for second.
