OXFORD – The No. 2 Texas A&M baseball team dropped its series opener at Ole Miss, 4-3, Friday night from Swayze Field.

Evan Aschenbeck suffered his first loss of the season after allowing two runs over 1.2 innings of work. Starter Ryan Prager earned a no-decision after giving up two runs over 5.2 frames. The lefty also punched out 10 Rebels (26-23, 10-15) on the night, marking the fifth time this season he has reached double-digit strikeouts. Â

Jackson Appel led the Aggies (41-9, 16-9) offensively with a 3-for-4 performance at the dish. The three-hit night marked the fifth of the season for the senior. Designated hitter Hayden Schott followed with a 2-for-3 night to round out the multi-hit performers for the Maroon & White.

Appel opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single to left center that plated Gavin Grahovac, who reached on an error.

After Kaeden Kent extended the lead to 2-0 with a solo blast to right center in the second, the Rebels cut the lead in half with a solo homer of their own. For Kent, the long ball marked his second of the year and second in the last three games.

In the third, Ole Miss evened the score at 2-2 with an RBI single to center.

Following a two-out double from Appel in the fifth, Schott plated the senior with an RBI single back up the middle to put the Maroon & White back in front, 3-2.

In the eighth, the Rebels jumped in front 4-3 behind an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. An errant pickoff throw by the Aggies aided Ole Miss in the frame. Â

Texas A&M put the tying run on second in the ninth but were unable to extend the game as the Rebels finished off game one, 4-3.
