Texas A&M Surges to Second-Highest Directors’ Cup Finish in School History

Boosted by eight top 10 NCAA finishes, Texas A&M surged to a No. 6 finish in the final 2023-24 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, which tied for the second highest effort in school history and was the best finish in more than a decade.

CLEVELAND – Boosted by eight top 10 NCAA finishes, Texas A&M surged to a No. 6 finish in the final 2023-24 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, which tied for the second highest effort in school history and was the best finish in more than a decade.

Leading the way was the NCAA Championship by coach Mark Weaver's women's tennis team and the NCAA runner-up finish by the Aggie baseball squad. Other teams contributing NCAA top 10 finishes were men's outdoor track & field (5th), women's golf (5th), men's indoor track & field (6th), softball (9th), men's tennis (9th) and women's outdoor track & field (10th).

It was Texas A&M's 18th straight appearance in the Directors' Cup top 25 and it was the highest since the Aggies placed No. 5 in the 2012-13 edition. It was the seventh time that the Aggies have placed in the Directors' Cup top 10. All 19 of Texas A&M's NCAA-sponsored sports advanced to the postseason and 18 contributed points to the final standings

The Aggies are one of 11 teams nationally to finish in the top 25 every season since 2005-06. Joining Texas A&M in the elite group are: Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Stanford, Texas, UCLA and USC. Before the beginning of the streak, Texas A&M had posted just two top 25 Directors' Cup finishes.

Additionally, Texas A&M's equestrian team, the department's lone non-NCAA program, advanced to the semifinals of the NCEA Championship.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
