CHASKA, Minn. – Texas A&M men's golf standouts Phichaksn Maichon and Wheaton Ennis finished their solid efforts at the 124th U.S. Amateur with Thursday's match play.

Maichon's run came to an end in the round of 16 where Luis Masaveu prevailed 3&2. Ennis was topped by Ashton McCulloch in the round of 32, 1-up, at the par-72, 7,552-yard Hazeltine National Golf Club.

In his battle to get to the quarterfinal round, Maichon held 1-up leads after No. 3 and No. 10, but Masaveu used three birdies over a five-hole span to go 3-up with three holes to go and Maichon was unable to keep the match in play on No. 16.

In his round of 32 match, Maichon scored a 4&2 victory over James Ashfield. He pounced on the Welshman early, going 4-up after six holes. Ashfield showed signs of life with an eagle on No. 11 and he took advantage of a Maichon double-bogey on No. 12 to cut the margin in half. The Aggie closed the deal with a birdie on No. 15 coupled with Ashfield's bogey on No. 18.

Wheaton led 3-up after 12 holes, but bogeys on three of the next five holes gave Ashton McCulloch the 1-up advantage headed to No. 18. Both golfers bogeyed the last hole ending the stellar U.S. Amateur debut for the Aggie incoming freshman.
