Cernousek, Fernández García-Poggio Lock in Top-10 Finishes to Wrap up Carmel Cup

Texas A&M golfers Adela Cernousek and Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio registered top-10 finishes to wrap up the Carmel Cup Sunday at the historic Pebble Beach Golf Links and led the Aggies to fourth place on the team leaderboard.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Texas A&M golfers Adela Cernousek and Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio registered top-10 finishes to wrap up the Carmel Cup Sunday at the historic Pebble Beach Golf Links and led the Aggies to fourth place on the team leaderboard.
 
"Glad we got the first tournament of the year under our belt and now we know where we are at," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "It is a long season, but we have some things from this tournament that we can go back and work on. There was a lot of good things this week as well and we have a group that is willing to work hard. We can't wait to get back out there in a couple of weeks."
 
The Aggies (+35) finished fourth behind Mississippi State (+27), Arkansas (+23) and Vanderbilt (+21) at the eight-team tournament. Texas A&M has finished in the top four of every season-opening tournament during the Chadwell era.
 
Cernousek tied for sixth after going 1-under 215 at the Carmel Cup. The reigning NCAA Individual Champion has finished in the top six of six-straight collegiate tournaments, dating back to March of last season.
 
Fernández García-Poggio produced another 1-under 71 on Sunday, building off her 1-under par outing in the second round. The sophomore finished at even par thru 54 holes and tied for seventh, the highest finish of her collegiate career.
 
Vanessa Borovilos shot a 6-over 222 and tied for 12th in her collegiate debut. The freshman is ranked No. 109 on the World Amateur Golf Ranking and was the No. 3 ranked player in the 2024 class. Lauren Nguyen tied for 22nd in the first team action of her career, going 13-over 229 at Pebble Beach.
 
Mia Nixon and Kynadie Adams both tied for 36th and shot 20-over 236.
