WACO – The Texas A&M men's tennis team had a strong opening day in Waco as three of the four Aggies competing advanced to the semifinals in singles play at the Waco Fall Kickoff Classic on Friday.
The top seed in the gold bracket, sophomore Tiago Pires defeated Jamie Diack from LSU in a two-set victory, 6-4, 6-4, and will be heading to the semifinals to face Felipe Pagnacco of Texas Tech.
Senior JC Roddick, top seed in the green bracket, victory took down Julain Alonso Vivanco of TCU, in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1. Roddick is set to go up against Timothy Carlsson Seger of the University of Tulsa in the semifinals.
No. 2 seed Lathan Skrobarcek came out victorious in two sets against Charles Hobbs of LSU, 6-1, 6-0 in the silver draw. He advances to the semifinals against Imran Daniel Abdul Hazli.
Junior Ethan Silva fought hard, but went down against Takeyasu Sekiguchi of Texas Tech, 6-4, 6-2.
The Aggies will be gearing up for the semifinals tomorrow as well as doubles, with the pairings of Roddick/Skrobarek and Pires/Silva.
