Men’s Tennis Heads to ITA All-American Championships

The Texas A&M men's tennis team resumes its fall season Saturday at the ITA All-American Championships Sept. 21-29 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

TULSA, Okla. – The Texas A&M men's tennis team resumes its fall season Saturday at the ITA All-American Championships Sept. 21-29 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

"The ITA All-American is always the toughest tournament in the fall and it has extra meaning this year since it's tied to earning a spot into the NCAA individual championships," head coach Steve Denton said. "All the best players in college tennis go to Tulsa to compete. We're taking eight players, and I expect they will be severely tested mentally and physically which is what a coach loves to see. I know our guys are really excited about the opportunity."

The Aggies are looking to continue their strong start after posting a 12-3 record at the Waco Fall Kickoff Classic last weekend. Sophomore Tiago Pires took home the win in the Gold draw, blowing past the competition with three straight straight-sets victories.

The tournament starts with the pre-qualifying draw Sept. 21-22, continues with the qualifying rounds Sept. 23-24, followed by the main draw from Sept. 25-29.

Representing Texas A&M in the pre-qualifying draw are Pires, senior Luke Casper, junior Togan Tokac and graduate student Matthis Ross. Senior Giulio Perego earned a spot in the qualifying round and fellow senior JC Roddick will compete in the main draw.

The doubles duo of junior Ethan Silva and sophomore Grant Lothringer earned a wild card invitation to the qualifying draw by advancing to the double final of the ITA Summer National Championships, while Tokac/Perego, who are ranked No. 3 in the preseason ITA rankings, start in the main draw.

More information about the draws and live scoring can be found on the tournament homepage and a livestream of matches in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center will be streamed on the TrackTennis page.
