Stoiana Storms into ITA All-American Consolation Semifinals

Texas A&M standout defeated a pair of top-15 opponents in Saturday's action at the Cary Tennis Center.

CARY, N.C. – Texas A&M women's tennis standout Mary Stoiana defeated a pair of top-15 opponents in Saturday's ITA All-American Championships action at the Cary Tennis Center.
 
Top-ranked Stoiana won her consolation round of 16 match against No. 10 Sarah Hamner of South Carolina, 6-1, 6-3. In the consolation quarterfinal round, Stoiana stormed back for a three-set victory over No. 14 Amelia Honer of UC Santa Barbara, winning 1-6, 6-1, 7-5.
 
Stoiana faces Michigan's No. 12 Julia Fleigner in a consolation semifinal round match Sunday at 10 a.m. The winner earns a spot in November's NCAA Individual Championship in Waco, Texas. The winner plays either No. 2 Dasha Vidmanova (Georgia) or No. 37 Sophia Johnson (Old Dominion) in the consolation championship match Sunday afternoon.
 
Ten singles players from the ITA All-American Championships qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship, with eight of those being main draw quarterfinalists and two being feed-in consolation finalists. Meanwhile, four doubles teams will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship.
