WACO, Texas – Texas A&M head coach Tana McKay and former student-athlete Quincy Cahill Allen have been selected as members of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) inaugural Hall of Fame class, as announced Wednesday.
McKay, a co-creator of the Texas A&M program, is in her 25th season at the helm and has led the Aggies to 12 team and discipline national championships and three NCEA Team National Championships. In her tenure, McKay has also coached 56 NCEA All-Americans. This season, McKay has guided the 2023-24 squad to a 5-1 record and a No. 2 national ranking.
Cahill Allen lettered three years (2000-01-02) at Texas A&M, helping turn the program into a national power. She was a two-time AQHA National Champion in Reining (2000, 2002) and Horsemanship (2001, 2002) and helped the 2002 squad claim the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Western National Championship as well as the Varsity Equestrian Overall National Championship. Cahill Allen was also the high-point rider in the AQHA in 2000, 2001, and 2002.
To this day, Cahill Allen still holds three Texas A&M career records; total western points (332), total Reining points (184) and total open Horsemanship points (148). In 2016, Cahill Allen was inducted into the Texas A&M Lettermen's Association Hall of Fame.
The inaugural NCEA Hall of Fame Class includes two student-athletes, two coaches and two special contributors. Nominations were accepted from all current and former NCEA member institution representatives. The Board of Directors and Hall of Fame Selection Committee determined the honorees.
Hall of Fame honorees must have made great and/or unusual contributions in support of the NCEA in personal time, effort, performance, and/or material and services over and above all ordinary expectations of the average supporter. Honorees were identified in three distinct categories: athletes (Legacy 2000-2007; Current 2008-2017), coaches, and special contributors.
