NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Texas A&M defensive lineman Nic Scourton was named a quarterfinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy Thursday afternoon, which is awarded annually to the student-athlete who best exhibits the characteristics of Ronnie Lott by making an IMPACT on and off the field. IMPACT is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.Â
Â
Scourton has come on strong in SEC play, tallying 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks through three league games. He ranks sixth in the nation and second in the SEC with 10.0 tackles for loss on the season, while his 4.5 sacks are good for sixth in the league. Scourton made a big impact in the win over Arkansas as all four of his tackles were for a total of 16 yards lost, including a strip sack late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Aggies.Â
Â
A native of Bryan, Texas, Scourton has played in a key role in helping the Maroon & WhiteÂ
boast the No. 17 in scoring defense (16.7) in the country, while their 11 touchdowns allowed on the season are tied for 14th nationally. Scourton and the Aggies have also held their opponents to 100-or-fewer yards on the ground in each of the last four games, most recently limiting Missouri to just 68 yards and no rushing scores.
Â
The 2024 Lott IMPACT® Trophy quarterfinalists include four defensive linemen, four linebackers, and eight defensive backs.
Â
Semifinalists will be chosen in late November with finalists in December. The finalists will be invited to attend the annual Lott IMPACT® Trophy award show on Dec. 9, 2024, in Las Vegas.
