Aggies Lose Regular Season Finale versus No. 3 Mississippi State
Oct 27, 2024 | Soccer
Next up for the Aggies is the SEC Tournament
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the No. 3 Mississippi State Bulldogs Sunday at Ellis Field to wrap up the regular season.
The teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half, despite the Aggies owning advantages in shots (6-2), shots-on-goal (3-1) and corner kicks (6-0).
The Aggies' best chance to score in the opening stanza came on a corner kick when Sydney Becerra was able to blast two close-range shots, but one was saved by Bulldog keeper Maddy Anderson and the other went off the face of a Mississippi State defender.
Texas A&M's inability to break the ice haunted them in the second half as Mississippi State hit on a long range shot in the 51st minute and the Bulldogs added a counter-attack goal in the 79th minute.
For the sixth time on the season, the Maroon & White found themselves on the wrong end of a decision despite outshooting an opponent. This time the tally was 12-7 in favor of the Aggies, including 5-4 in shots-on-goal. Texas A&M was unable to convert on any of its 12 corner kick opportunities.
