INDIANAPOLIS – Mary Stoiana, the reigning Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Player of the Year, headlined a group of three Aggies earning spots at next week's NCAA Individual Championships as she was tabbed the no. 1 seed for the women's singles championship.
Â
Joining Stoiana for the 64-player tournament are Nicole Khirin and Daria Smetannikov. Action is set for Nov. 19-24 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
Â
Stoiana earned her spot by advancing to the consolation finals at the ITA All-American Championship in September. Khirin joined the field by earning co-champion status at last weekend's ITA Central Sectional Championship and she was joined the next day by Smetannikov who won her 5-8 playoff match at the Central Sectional.
Â
In limited collegiate action this fall, Stoiana is 6-1. She recently won her first professional circuit singles title with a win at the ITF W75 Edmond Open on Oct. 13.
Â
Khirin is 6-3, but most recently ran off a four-match win streak at the Central Sectional. Smetannikov is 13-4 in four tournaments.
Â
The complete tournament bracket will be revealed Saturday at 5 p.m.
