BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M soccer standouts Carolyn Calzada and Andersen Williams earned team captain titles for the 2024 campaign, head coach G Guerrieri announced Monday.
"Being named a captain of the Aggie soccer team is a big honor and huge commitment to your teammates," Guerrieri said. "We have had some amazing leaders wear that captain's armband over the years. Andersen and Carolyn are extraordinary examples of what we look for to be our captains. Each come from great families and are dedicated to this program. Both are hard-working competitors and leaders on and off the field. They are great teammates and true students of the game."
Calzada owns 36 Aggie caps, all starts, in her two seasons at Texas A&M. She has anchored the backline at center back for a Texas A&M defense that posted 16 shutouts. Her career honors include All-SEC Second Team in 2022 and SEC All-Freshman Team in 2022. She also claimed a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Team last year.
"CC has started almost every game that she's been physically able to play since her arrival," Guerrieri said. "She gives her all every day for the team and her teammates."
Williams has been a beacon of perseverance during her time in Aggieland. She had her freshman campaign cut short after two games with a knee injury and another knee injury the next year in training camp forced her to miss the entire 2021 campaign. The last two seasons she has played in 38 matches, including seven starts. Last season she logged five points on two goals and one assist in the Aggie midfield.
"Andi is wise beyond her years," Guerrieri said. "She has been able to step in and master several different roles during her career and has been an amazing inspiration to her teammates and coaches after coming back twice from major knee injuries to now rising to captain."
