Feb 06, 2024 | Women's Golf
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The No. 12 Texas A&M women's golf team finished fourth at the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday at the Grand Reserve Golf Club.
"You can never replace the experience of playing in a final group and competing against some great teams," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "We made some costly mistakes that were unforced that plagued us all three rounds. We will work on those things and get ready to come out next week."
Blanca Fernández García-Poggio led the Aggies on all three days and finished round three with a 3-under 69 to secure a share of third. The graduate student's round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-five No. 5 and a 3-under 33 on the back nine. The Madrid, Spain, native notched the sixth top-three finish of her career and went 7-under 209 for the week.
Early in the round, the Aggies (-4) took the lead on the field, but a surging No. 3 Arkansas shot 12-under 276 to win the tournament. The Razorbacks went 10-under 854 at the Puerto Rico Classic and No. 11 LSU (-9) and No. 17 Auburn (-8) completed the top four.
Adela Cernousek tied for 11th and fired a 2-under 214 for the tournament. Cernousek registered the third top-15 performance of the year in which she is leading the team with a 70.50 stroke average.
Jennie Park was the next low scorer for the Maroon & White, posting a 2-over 218 out in Puerto Rico and tying for 27th. Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio went 3-over 219 and held onto a share of 31st while Sky Sudberry rounded out the lineup tied for 52nd with a 9-over 225.
