Mar 21, 2024 | Women's Swimming and Diving
ATHENS – Texas A&M's Joslyn Oakley highlighted night two of NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish on the 1-meter, while Hayden Miller also notched a top-16 finish Thursday night at Gabrielsen Natatorium. The Aggies sit in 17th place through day two with 26 points.
Oakley advanced to the first final of her career after a top-three performance in prelims. She went on to finish fourth in the evening session with a score of 311.60 to pick up the third All-America accolade of her career.
Miller got the night started in the 500 free. After lowering her personal best in prelims, she clocked the third-fastest time in program history and sixth-fastest time of the night, going 4:36.60 to place 10th and earned Honorable Mention All-America distinction.
The 200 free relay team of Olivia Theall, Kaitlyn Owens, Jordan Buechler and Bobbi Kennett closed things out with a time of 1:29.22 to place 20th.
Buechler (1:58.79) and Giulia Goerigk (1:56.87) clocked new personal bests in the 200 IM during the morning session, while Chloe Stepanek matched her best time in the 50 free, going 22.06, and Owens also clocked a new best with a 22.54 in the 50 free.
The meet continues Friday and fans can follow the action through the live stream, while live results for both swimming and diving are available here.
Post Meet Quotes
Head diving coach Jay Lerew on Joslyn Oakley's performance …
"I was really happy with what she did considering how stacked the field is. There are a lot of fifth-year seniors in this event and she held her own. They don't know who she is yet, she's just competing in her first final, but they do now and I'm really proud of her.
"She was just herself tonight, she's sort of relaxed when she dives like that, but that's the way she is so that's a good sign. Hopefully this will keep her feeling good about 3-meter tomorrow morning."
